NEC 515 Cell Phone

Featuring a 2.2 inch screen in 65,536 colors and loads of features, including synchronization, and one-button Internet, access (mMode), the NEC 515 is a versatile, detailed phone for the power user.

Business callers should enjoy SyncML: the PDA-like organizing functionality synchronizes your phonebook, to-do list, and scheduler/calendar with your PC; as well the phone's four handy preset modes (meeting, pocket, car, and normal) which determine appropriate volume levels for features on the phone by situation, such as the keypad volume, ring volume, vibrate mode, plus auto answer, new message alert, and so on.

The 515 can also send Dual tone multi-frequency (DTMF) tones for communicating digital signals to over-the-phone automated services that allow access to information such as financial accounts, voice mail, and more. You can even turn the DTMF tone off when in use during a multi party call so other callers are spared having to hear the sometimes grating, fax-like tones.

Messaging options include Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS), Multi-media Messaging Service (MMS), and Short Messaging Service (SMS). Turbo Text provides text-message delivery to any handset even if you don't own a handset yourself (it goes to an email address).

The phone's screen is divided into areas containing icons that indicate the battery strength, unread short messages, not accepting call, call forwarding, voice mail, GPRS attached, connection status, and Network signal strength. A wide variety of other graphic icons indicate, or can be assigned to indicate, various types of incoming information, such as "business" or "personal", "high" or "low priority", or "MMS with attachment" among others. The NEC 515 also features an LED, located on the back of the handset’s flip cover, that glows red when the phone is being used, blue when receiving a message or voice mail, and various other colors (green, light blue, red, yellow, purple, pearl, and blue) which can be assigned to individuals as caller identification on incoming calls.

Calling options include multi-party call capability (conference calling), and call forwarding. The phone's menus provide access to the Call Message center, Clock, Phonebook, Downloads (Apps and Games, Music, and Pictures) the Web browser, Call records, and Applications (including a calculator, scheduler, to do list, notepad, currency converter, Voice Memo, Synchronization, and IR receive). Able to store up to 500 phone records, the NEC 515 can also use the SIM memory phonebook to store up to 250 additional records, depending on SIM capacity.

For fun, 2 (deletable) games are included, as well as access, via the NEC website, to other free games such as Baseball, Chain Arrow, nWars, Snowboarding, Star Diversion, The Emperors Revolution, and Torpedo Shooter. An array of free ring tones to work with the phone's 40-layer polyphonic ring tones come in a variety of musical genres, including Alternative, Classical, General, Jazz, New Age, Oldies, Pop, Rock, Seasonal, Techno, and Top 10 Hits. Phone screen wallpaper and picture caller-id (for 10 contacts) round out this phone's many nifty features.
