NEC 525 Cell Phone

Compatible with AT&T cell phone service, the NEC 525 is a quad-band GSM phone, providing users with world-wide roaming on virtually all available GSM networks. The phone also supports wireless Internet service (WML, cHTML (i-Mode), and xHTML (WAP 2.0)), and features a built-in digital camera and plenty of phone and organizer tools, all displayed on the main,162x216 pixel, 65,536 color screen.

Used simply as a phone, the 525's flip-open design closes to show a color exterior screen as well (4096 color, 100 x 80 pixel), enabling users to see their caller ID pictures in color. There's also conventional, alphanumeric caller ID, as well as voice dialing, voice memo, a 500 contact phonebook (contact details include name, email address, multiple phone numbers, and more), vibrate mode, and 40 chord polyphonic ring tone support. The phone also provides 13 preset and 120 customizable ring tones.

The NEC 525 sports a built-in digital camera with 100k pixel resolution, and the resulting photos can be sent via wireless email to friends, colleagues, and family members. For easy browsing through archived photos, the 525 also has a cool, built-in thumbnail gallery. You can also send your saved images along with text messages to other compatible cell phones and PCs, via the 525's EMS and MMS messaging service, which also supports two-way and predictive text messaging.

The phone's organizer features-- basically a calendar and to-do list--can sync with your PC via the 525's wireless infrared modem. The phone is also Java-compatible, so users can download and enjoy Java-based software straight from the Net via the Netfront 3.0 browser. This also comes in handy for downloading new screen wallpaper, games, polyphonic ring tones, animations, and other cool stuff. Additionally, the 525 lets users set a variety of different profiles, so it's easy to switch between different phone set-ups without much hassle. The phone also supports conventional email and high speed data transfer via GPRS.

The NEC 525 weighs 3.53 ounces and measures 1.88 x 3.94 x 1.0 inches. It has an internal antenna, and its 850 mAh Lithium Ion batteries are rated at up to 4.5 hours digital talk time, and up to 200 hours digital standby time.
