Nokia 3200 Cell Phone Review

Compatible with AT&T cell phone service, the highly-customizable Nokia 3200 features an integrated camera, XHTML Internet browser, high- speed EDGE data transmission (up to 43.2 kbps), plenty of phone and organizer features, and some particularly nutty fun-features, all displayed on a high-resolution, 128 x128 pixel, 4,096 color screen. Customizable faceplates

One of the more interesting things about the 3200 is its faceplate capabilities. With the integrated camera, users can take 352 x 288 pixel photos and modify them with phone's built-in "enhanced picture editor". The resulting photos can then be ported over to a PC, printed, and fashioned (with the included transparent templates and special template cutter) into custom face plates for the Nokia 3200. Since the phone is also Internet-capable, users can also download and modify pictures from the Web as well. To complete the package, a variety of custom ring tones are available for download to match your 3200's new look.

Calling Features

Used simply as a phone, the 3200 benefits from Nokia's typically slick design; its 4-way scroll key makes menu navigation and dialing a breeze. Plus, its vibrating alert comes in handy for silent call notification. Nokia also supports TTY/TDD (Telecommunication Device for the Deaf), and hearing aid support for the Nokia LPS-3 Loopset, (adapter and Loopset sold separately).

Messaging and Internet

Mobile messaging features are fairly standard: via MMS, users can send, edit, forward, and receive image and text messages to and from compatible phones or PCs. Images and ring tones received via MMS can be saved in phone's handy image gallery. There's also conventional e-mail, instant messaging capability, and predictive text input. With the built-in Internet browser, users can download new wallpaper and graphics, and more Java applications and games in addition to Virtual Me and Bounce, which are already included with the phone.

Organizer

Organizer features include an audio memo recorder with up to 1 minute memory, a 250 contact phone book, a calendar with monthly view, and an alarm clock. Users can also wirelessly sync their data sync with a PC via infrared beam and the included Nokia 3200 PC Suite software. GPRS high speed data transmission is also available.

Vital Statistics and more

The Nokia 3200 also comes with an integrated flashlight, a built-in stereo FM radio and a mono headset (stereo headset available separately). The 3200 weighs 3.17 ounces and measures 4.23 x 1.77 x 0.81 inches. Its Lithium Ion batteries are rated at up to 4 hours digital talk time, and up to 12 days digital standby time. It operates on GSM/GPRS 850/1800/1900 MHz service.
