Nokia 3300 Cell Phone Review
The Nokia 3300 music phone works both as a conventional cell phone and as an MP3 player, stereo FM radio, and a digital recorder. Using a USB cable, you can copy MP3 or AAC files from a compatible PC straight to the included 64 MB MMC card. You can even listen to music on headphones while you play one of the included video games the 3300's 128x128 pixel color display. Plus, with its MP3 storage capabilities, you can create your own customized ring tones using music data from the MP3s you've loaded earlier using software available on to the manufacturer's Web site.
As a cell phone, the 3300 features personal ring tones for incoming calls--created either in MP3/AAC, Polyphonic ringbones, or True Tones--as well as storage for up to 50 polyphonic ringbones, a first-vibrate-then-ring option, a 250 entry phone book, caller profiles, and a graphical meter for pre-paid accounts. The phone's organizer function includes a calendar of up to 250 entries, a to-do list of up to 30 entries, a calculator, reminder, stop watch, and countdown timer.
But the interesting bit is really the 3300's music capabilities. Once you've loaded your music, you can control the sound with a five-band graphical equalizer, and built-in stereo widening enhances the playback sound. The 3300 provides screen links to artists' homepages, and comes with a high-fidelity stereo headset. Additionally, the Nokia Audio Manager PC Software package facilitates the creation of AAC music files and playlists used to organize music files on a compatible PC. The stereo FM radio feature includes automatic channel search, 20 definable presets, and an integrated (AAC) recorder. There's even a digital recorder which accepts signals from the radio and the audio line-in. The 3300 also supports multimedia messaging (MMS and storage for up to 50 MMS messages) SMS (and storage for up to 150 SMS messages) chat, and email over SMS, with up to 4.5 MB of internal memory for user data, and an advanced WAP browser.
The unique design of the phone makes gaming easy for two-hand use; keyboard keys are divided on both sides of the screen and work in conjunction with the four way control key.
The 3300 supports Mobile Information Device Profile 1.0 (MIPD 1.0) and has room for storage of up to 50 applications or games based on Java technology. The 3300's WAP browser gives users access to the WAP Internet over GPRS/CSD and easy download of True Tone download, a picture viewer (storage for up to 50 pictures), ring tones, new applications based on Java technology, games, wallpaper, and operator logos.
Included in the box are the Nokia 3300 Music Phone, Li-Ion battery, travel charger, stereo headset, recording cable, USB cable, Quick guide, warranty card, CD-ROM, and 64 MB memory card (MMC). The phone weighs 4.4 oz. and measures 4.52 x 2.48 x 0.78 inches.
