Nokia 6610 Cell Phone Review
Compatible with T-Mobile cell phone service, the Nokia 6610 combines the "classic" Nokia look with a bright color screen, high speed data transmission, plenty of memory for contacts, and more. The 6610's 128 x 128 pixel color screen sports up to 4,096 colors, making it extra easy to see and navigate with the phone's 4-way scroll button. The 6610 runs on tri-band service (GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz), so you can make calls from anywhere in the world, and an integrated speakerphone makes talking in any hands-free environment that much easier.
Internet connection and high-speed data transmission happen via GPRS and the Mobile Internet. This lets you check the Web for sports, weather, stock updates, and whatever else you might want, as well as send e-mail, text, and picture messages to friends and colleagues. The phone's chat feature also provides handy, predictive text input. You can read and hear messages from others that come with images, sounds, and text; then you can edit and forward those messages to other compatible phones, or simply save the MMS images to your Gallery. Downloadable MIDI ring tones and Java applications can be stored in the Gallery for later use as well. The 6610 also comes with a few preloaded Java applications, including Converter II, Portfolio II, a Chess Puzzle, and a game called "Bounce".
As an organizer, the 6610 provides a phone book (up to 300 contacts and multiple numbers and text entries per contact), an enhanced calendar with day/month view, a to-do list with priority settings, an alarm clock with snooze, and even a stopwatch and countdown timer. Any information you gather on the move you can easily sync up with your PC later using Nokia's 6610 PC Suite software, either wirelessly via infrared beam, or with a USB cable.
Other nifty features include polyphonic MIDI ring tones, vibrating alert, customizable wallpaper and wallpaper templates, and 8 different color options for personalizing display areas such as headers, battery strength and network indicators--just like a PC! There's also a stereo FM radio (headset required and sold separately) and a digital clock screensaver.
The streamlined Nokia 6610 measures only 4.17 x 1.77 x 0.69 inches and keeps its shape through its use of a powerful internal antenna. It weighs 2.96 ounces. Its Li-Ion batteries are rated at up to 5 hours digital talk time and up to 12 days digital standby. Compatible accessories (available separately) include a camera, camera headset, and the Nokia Music Stand.
